I think I have to cast way more seeds than I do currently.

That concept of a culture's "canon" is pretty fascinating. Looking at required reading in high school and college, then seeing how society has evolved in spite of or because what is essentially collective exposure to these expressions of art. THEN I think of what my OWN canon is … and why!

I've been confronted lately with my own tendency to live in scarcity, or to walk around thinking that my resources are scarce (which is kind of a hoarder's tendency I guess). Maybe the servant with one talent who buries it in a field believing the master to be a hard man.

Yeah, and cultural canons are constantly evolving. I know there's a lot of discussion around great books and western civilization right now, and it's probably an ongoing conversation that swings around every generation. I'm not sure what to make of it. On one level, I love those canonical works, but they have to exist like the elm seed, in order to produce new works.

Such a gift. Now seeing paper wings everywhere and in many forms. Thank you, Seth. Thank you, elms. Thank you, books and those who love the art of words.
